Eating locally-grown organic produce isn’t just good for the environment and economy, it’s the best way to go to get the most out of your fruits and veggies nutrition-wise…

The key word in fresh produce is fresh. Imagine how you feel after travelling on a plane for more than 5 hours. A bit tired and lacklustre, right? Now, imagine what happens to the fruits and vegetables you are buying, which are labelled organic but come from all around the world. They too have to take a long trip to get to the UAE and during that time they lose some of their nutritional value.

As soon as a vegetable or fruit is picked, vitamins such as C, E, A, and some B vitamins begin to rapidly decrease. Other factors such as the exposure to air, artificial lights, and temperature changes can also contribute to the decrease in nutritional value in fresh produce – giving us good reason to opt for the organic goodies that are produced and sold in our very own neighbourhoods… Whenever possible.

Another benefit to consider when buying locally grown produce is that local farms can allow their fruits and veggies to ripen longer (or fully ripen) since the turn around time to sell them is also much shorter compared to international organic farms (who sometimes harvest before they should, to avoid products spoiling too quickly).
